Birchwood Library is a ‘dual-use’ library, open to members of the local community, as well as learners and staff from Birchwood Community High School.

One of eleven LiveWire Libraries within Warrington, Birchwood Library is adjacent to the school building and is easily accessible via road and public transport networks.

The Library is a hub of learner activity offering access to academic resources and materials to support reading for pleasure.  We encourage teaching staff to bring their classes in to use the study areas, book stock and IT facilities in order to enhance the learning experience.

Joining and Using the Library

It’s free to join the library and there are no age restrictions for membership, although the number of books you are allowed to borrow does vary according to age.

Everyone can borrow up to 10 items.

Please bring your card with each time you visit the library – you should never allow anyone else to use your card as you are responsible for the items issued to it.  Learners must show their library card at the door each time they come in during break and lunch.

Top Tip! Remember that you should never allow anyone else to use your card, as you are responsible for the items issued to it and may have to pay a fine if they are late.

Once you have joined the library, you are then able to use your card at any LiveWire Library within Warrington.

Services and Activities

You can take a book out for three weeks at a time before returning it.  If you would like to keep it for a longer period of time, just renew it!

Items can be renewed in many ways, including in person, over the telephone and online via the library catalogue libonline.

Libonline is also available for you to search for your own books and see whether we have them in stock here at Birchwood, or reserve them from another library.

You can use the computers free of charge for an hour every day and you are allowed one free black and white printout for homework.  If you’re stuck with your research, ask at the counter and library staff will tell you all about our helpful Online Library resources.
