Life at Birchwood

Communications with school

The Form Tutor is the first point of contact for parents and carers. At Birchwood, we believe there should be a strong relationship between the Form Tutor, the learner and their parents and carers built on good communication and mutual respect. There is a Year Team Leader to oversee the progress and pastoral care of every learner in their year group.

Keeping in touch with school is easy. You can contact the main office by email on contactus@birchwoodhigh.org or by telephone on 01925 853 500. You can also download the Xpressions app to your smartphone or tablet. Please visit the Xpressions app section for more details.

Once you are set up with the app you can see information such as:

  • Free messages sent by the school delivered to the app

  • Attendance and absence information

  • Attitude to learning (“ATL”) scores for each lesson.

  • Daily/Weekly timetable information

We also have a weekly update for parents, carers, and the community with news and announcements from school. It is essential reading for all parents and carers. If you are not receiving the weekly update please contact school.

The School Day

Getting to school on foot, bike, bus or on the train is very straightforward. Breakfast club is open from 8am for a bite to eat, activities like table tennis or just to catch up with friends before the school day starts.

The school day starts at 8.50am with AM registration. The first bell sounds at 8.45am to let learners know it is time to go to form rooms. Full details of the school day are available here.

  • Lessons last for an hour and each student will have their own timetable telling them where they need to be for each lesson.

  • Break is at 11:00am for 15 minutes. The school catering outlets are open for learners to grab a quick snack.

  • We have changed to a single lunch from 1:15pm-1:55pm.  Learners can use the school restaurants or bring their own packed lunch. Visit the school food section for more details.

  • PM registration is at 2.55pm and the formal school day finishes at 3.00pm.

  • Extra-curricular activities, revision sessions and homework club takes place from 3.00 to 4.00 each day after school. Visit the extra-curricular section for more details.
