Transition
At Birchwood Community High School, we are committed to supporting students’ journey from primary to secondary school. Whilst this is an exciting time, we also understand how challenging this can be which is why we have a comprehensive support offer in place, for all students who are new to our school.
We appreciate that this can also be a worrying time for parents too and we want to make sure that any questions or concerns that you may have are addressed promptly and thoroughly.
For this reason, we have attached some FAQs below- these may help with any queries that you may have, in the first instance.
Your email address is the best way for us to contact you before your child starts school in September. Please use the form below to provide us with your email. It is helpful for school to have an email address for all parents and carers – not just one per child.

Yes, they will.
FAQ: what will happen during the September transition days?
September Transition Days
The first two days of our school term will be dedicated to ensuring that our year 7 students feel welcomed and excited about their new start. They will be the only year group in school to give them some time to adjust and familiarise themselves with the new environment.
The two days will include activities that are centred on our school values: kindness, aspiration and knowledge. This will include interactive STEM workshops, oracy workshops and a visiting theatre production.
Students are not required to wear uniform- they should wear clothes that they find comfortable to move around in.
Students are welcome to bring in packed lunches but there will also be hot food available to purchase on both days. We do encourage all students to bring in a water bottle.
