I am delighted to welcome you and your son/daughter to our website and to our School Community in September!
Our comprehensive and supportive transition programme is designed to ensure that students who join Birchwood settle in easily and make friends quickly. I lead a wonderful team who look after the transition of our new Year 7 each year and we will use this website to communicate to parents and children over the coming weeks and months. We work closely with your current schools to ensure that we are ready for your arrival and that we know each of you.
I look forward to meeting all of you and helping support you with your first steps in your Birchwood journey.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ: Are we changing our uniform?
Any possible changes to the uniform policy are only a consideration, at this point. The email that was sent to primary headteachers to discuss with their PTA was just to gage opinions about any future potential changes.
The uniform policy will remain the same for the foreseeable future.
It is something that we will be reflecting on, over the coming months- if we do make any amendments to the policy, we will let parents know with plenty of notice – a minimum of 12 months before, and there would be a full parental consultation before anything changed.
FAQ: I have a question about the transition process, who should I contact?
Please complete the form below if you have any questions about our school or if you would like to organise a tour. We will make sure that the member of staff who is best placed to advise you gets back to you promptly:
FAQ: What is the Birchwood vision for transition?
At Birchwood Community High School, we are committed to supporting students’ journey from primary to secondary school. Whilst this is an exciting time, we also understand how challenging this can be which is why we have a comprehensive support offer in place, for all students who are new to our school.
We know how important it is for students to feel familiar and comfortable within their new environment which is why we hold an array of transition events and activities in the lead up to students joining us in year 7. Last year, we hosted:
- Memory workshops for primary schools
- The Warrington Primary Spelling Bee
- Several science experiments
- Primary students having a special performance of our school show
We also plan our transition days to ensure that students have the opportunity to acclimatise to their new school, whilst also taking part in a variety enriching activities. Last year, these included:
- Constructing mini bridges
- Making eco decorations
- Playing rugby with Warrington Wolves
- Understanding more about the solar system through virtual reality
- Innovation workshops
- Oracy workshops
- A visiting theatre production of ‘The Reluctant Dragon’
All of these activities take place alongside a robust, bespoke pastoral programme to ensure that all students feel confident and supported by the time that they arrive in September.
More information about this year’s programme will be released over the next few weeks.
