Birchwood Revision Hub- Getting Ready for Year 11

Welcome, Year 10 Students and Parents!

At Birchwood, we understand the importance of developing strong revision habits to help students succeed. With Year 11 mock exams starting on Monday, 7th October, now is the perfect time to start preparing. Effective revision is crucial to feeling confident and prepared, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

Three Key Principles for Effective Revision

  1. Be Specific
Focus on a precise topic during each revision session. Trying to absorb too much information at once can be overwhelming and counterproductive. Break down your subjects into manageable chunks for better retention and understanding.
  2. Test Yourself
One of the most effective ways to retain information is through self-testing. Use the “Look, Cover, Write, Repeat” method to reinforce your learning. This active recall strategy helps to embed knowledge more deeply in your memory.
  3. Set a Timer
Adopt the Pomodoro Technique by setting a timer for 25 minutes of focused revision followed by a 5-minute break. This method optimizes concentration and prevents burnout, making your study sessions more productive.
