Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Vision for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Birchwood we strive to ensure the needs of all students are met and pride ourselves on the personalised approach we take to student learning and achievement.

Our aim is to ensure that all students make progress regardless of additional or SEND needs and achieve the potential we know they are all capable of.

In this section you will find key information about SEND, including an introduction to our SEND Base “The Ancora Centre,” which is in the link below.

You are also able to access The SEND Information report, The SEND Policy, The Warrington Local offer and the offer from Birchwood Community High School

SEND Information Report

The information report is written for parents/carers who have children at Birchwood Community High School or Birchwood College, or who may be considering their children attending the school or college. It explains how we identify and support children with special educational needs and disabilities.

What is the Local Offer

The Local Offer was first introduced in the Green Paper (March 2011) as a local offer of all services available to support disabled children and children with SEN and their families. This easy to understand information will set out what is normally available in schools to help children with lower-level SEN as well as the options available to support families who need additional help to care for their child.

Warrington’s local offer site, Ask Ollie, is a one-stop-shop of SEND information, with a directory of local and national services to support children and young people with additional needs, and their families.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Policies

For information on admission arrangements for students with special educational needs and disabilities (“SEND”), the steps we take to prevent students with SEND from being treated less favourably than other students, and the support we provide to help students with SEND to access school life, please see the links below.
